Research: Acupuncture for Osteoarthritis

Acupuncture benefits blood flow, range of motion, and inflammation. A randomized study in Germany involving 3,633 patients using acupuncture to treat chronic pain related to osteoarthritis of hip or knee concluded that including acupuncture with routine care is associated with marked clinical improvement for patients. Improvements included a reduction of severity of pain along with increased quality of life for patients in the acupuncture group. Treatment benefits lasted past treatment months.
