A Step-by-Step Guide to Appointments at Bethesda Acupuncture

A physician speaking with a woman. Both appear happy and smiling.

Whether you are coming in for your first acupuncture appointment, or your hundredth, reviewing these tips for how to prepare can go a long way in optimizing your treatment and ensuring a comfortable experience.

Before Your Appointment:

  • Upon arrival, check in at the front desk. Remember to wear a mask throughout your visit and silence your phone.

  • We recommend using the restroom before going into your treatment room.

  • Please avoid wearing fragranced products such as perfumes, colognes, or heavily scented lotions.

  • Wearing loose and comfortable clothes that do not restrict blood flow is pertinent. Loose tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, or skirts are recommended. You may bring a change of clothing with you.

  • Please wear minimal jewelry. We recommend removing large earrings as the provider may treat these areas.

  • Avoid consuming heavy meals and caffeine a minimum of 2 hours before treatment to ensure a comfortable experience.

  • If you are feeling hungry or dehydrated prior to your appointment, you may have a light meal or snack along with warm water 2 hours before your treatment.

During Your Treatment:

  • Change your clothing if needed and make yourself comfortable on the treatment bed while you wait for the doctor.

  • Feel free to enjoy our music or you are welcome to listen to your own. Please play it from your phone’s speaker, not earphones.

  • There is a sanitized call button for your convenience. If you feel uncomfortable or need assistance during your treatment, press the button and someone will come right away.

After Your Treatment:

  • We encourage you to drink at least 12 ounces of water or herbal teas heated to 100°F or higher, within the hour after your appointment so your body functions as best it can, and so that you’re well hydrated.
